Pulse Volume Recorder (PVR)

  • A Pulse Volume Recorder is a study used to obtain information about arterial blood flow in the arms or legs. Blood pressure cuffs are placed on the arms,and fingers, or legs and toes. 
  • Ankle Brachial Index is a study used to measure, and compare blood pressure at your arms, and your ankles.
  • An Arterial Doppler is an study that uses high-frequency sound waves off circulation red blood cells, and producing an image or waveform.
  • The purpose of these exams is to obtain information about arterial blood flow in the arms, or legs.
  • The exams combined typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, and no test preparation is needed.
  • Patients should wear loose-fitting clothes, that allows access to the arms or legs
  • A water-based ultrasonic gel is applied to the skin and the Technologist will use an ultrasound transducer to acquire images.
